Cultivating Radical Mental Wellness: An Interview with Dr. Brittney M. Cofield-Poole
We are observing Mental Health Awareness month this May and bringing attention to TBPs work to advance the mental wellness of Black girls, nonbinary youth, and women. This interview is with one of our key partners this program year, Dr. Brittney M. Cofield-Poole, who provided wellness support for 2023-24 AAYA apprentices as they engaged in a study of Black feminist art, trained in photography, and courageously navigated their own healing to create the Reclamation exhibit.
Assata Goff’s Connection to Ancestral Wisdom through Art
This month, we were inspired by Durham-based artist and TBP’s Artist Coordinator Assata Goff’s traveling exhibit installation, “I Am an Ancestor Too,” and felt empowered this month to explore ancestral wisdom, archival work, and reflective writing.
Liberation for All Children
As we continue to push for Black liberation at TBP by supporting Black youth in rendering their full humanity and dignity through pens and lenses, we are clear — the liberation of Black children is bound up in the liberation of all children. This includes those who are sacrificed to war, forced displacement, oppressive resource control, racial/ethnic discipline, and gender violence. This includes Palestinian children.
